Leonard Michael “Mike” Tyler was born on October 13, 1956, in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Leonard Earl and Helen (Frickson) Tyler. He grew up in the LaPorte City and Waterloo areas. Following high school, Mike went to work for Gene Bond Plumbing which later became Al Gordan Plumbing. He most recently worked for Frickson Excavating.

At the age of 19, Mike was married to Tina Lynnott and the couple had 3 children together during their 20 years of marriage.

Mike loved the Minnesota Vikings and camping. He enjoyed working on cars and could fix just about anything around the house. When he was younger, Mike was the mastermind instigator behind many of the pranks committed by his 7 brothers and 7 sisters. He will be remembered most as a hard worker, loving grandfather and beloved father.

Mike passed away unexpectedly at the age of 60 years on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Allen Memorial Hospital-UPH.

He was preceded in death by his father; four brothers: Lester, Jody, Richard and James Tyler; a brother-in-law, Bobby Rinnels; and a sister-in-law, Teri Tyler.

Mike is survived by his mother, Helen Tyler of Waterloo; three children: Ann Tyler, Mikey Tyler, and Joey (Staci Beck) Tyler of Waterloo; eight grandchildren: Aaron Courtright, Serenity Tyler, Kaleb Tyler, Jace Tyler, Aleah Tyler, Kylei Short, Steven Clinton and Alicia Clinton; four brothers: Russell Tyler of Evansdale, Robert Tyler of Waterloo, Matthew (Rachel) Tyler of Waterloo, and Kurt Coburn of Waterloo; and by seven sisters: Debbie Tyler of Cedar Falls, Carlah (Jim) Apfel of Waterloo, Mildred Rinnels of Waukoma, Tammy Tangen of Decorah, Violette (Scott) Tyler of Dunkerton, LaRissa (Billy) Deeds of Dunkerton, and Beth Amo of Waterloo.

The gathering is football themed, so wear your favorite team’s attire. Memorials may be directed to the family.
