Patricia Aldine (Miller) Smith was born on July 14, 1932, in Moline, Illinois, daughter of Robert and Aldine (Moore) Miller. She graduated from Waterloo West High School with the Class of 1950. Pat worked for Northwestern Bell prior to marrying her husband, Richard Louis Smith on Valentine’s Day in 1953. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this year.

Pat enjoyed cooking and collecting recipes to cook for her family. In her working days, she loved to wear high heels but traded them in for more practical walking shoes after starting her family since she never learned to drive. For many years, Pat worked registration at her election polling station to earn money for birthday and Christmas gifts for Dick. Most of all, she cherished her home and anything to do with her beloved husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren!

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Louis and Laurina Smith; her first-born child, Judith Roberts; and her grandson, Christopher Roberts – all of whom have welcomed her into heaven. Pat is survived by her husband, Richard; five children: Michael Smith of Waterloo; Craig (JoAnn) Smith of Waverly; Mark (Susan) Smith of Cedar Falls; Jeffrey (Mary) Smith of Grundy Center; Tamara (Anthony) Bird of Denver; a step-son, Steve (Lourdes) Smith of Cupertino, CA; nine grandchildren: Tennile Frey, Jeremy Smith, Lynn Roberts, Clifton Smith, Jessica Iwasaki, Justin Bird, Tawnya Dawson, Regina Landt, and Hershel Edwards; seven great-grandchildren: Ethan, Conner, Mollie, Genevieve, Eliza, McKaylee, and Abby; a sister, Janet (Jerry) Thorpe of Tacoma, WA; and a close family friend, Mark Frey.

Pat touched many people’s hearts and will be missed by many. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Cedar Falls or the American Cancer Society.
