Betty Jane Bartholomew was born August 7, 1924 in Portland, Oregon; the daughter of Nels and Elizabeth (Fox) Nelson. She graduated from high school in Portland, then joined the United States Marines in 1943 and was a truck driver, honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1946.

Betty was united in marriage to Myrle Bartholomew on December 23, 1945 in Los Angeles, California; he preceded her in death September 1993. She sold Avon and Tupperware, then worked in the Logan Junior High School Bakery, where they made buns for all the Waterloo Schools, until her retirement. Betty enjoyed knitting and crocheting, she made all of her grandkids afghans upon their graduation. She also sang with the Sweet Adelines.

Betty passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the Western Home Communities at the age of 92 from natural causes.

She was preceded in death by her husband Myrle; two grandchildren, Catherine Miceli and Timothy Bartholomew; two brothers, Kenneth and Edgar Nelson; and a sister Dorothy Hedges.

Betty is survived by her five children: Sue (Richard) Rocarek of Cedar Rapids, Jim (Judy) Bartholomew of Cedar Falls, Tom (Roxanne) Bartholomew of Evansdale, John (Sherry) Bartholomew of Waterloo and Jane (Mike) Kush of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; nine grandchildren: David (Deb) Bartholomew, Debby (Doug) Roth, Lisa (Dave) Howell, Laura (John) Maurer, Danny Bartholomew, Brandi (Josh) Hurley, Traci Bartholomew, Michelle (Doug) Rowe and Michael (Laura) Kush; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.

Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
