Barbara J. Sterrett, 89, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died on Friday, April 21, 2017, at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls.

She was born in Des Moines on November 25, 1927, to Frank and Bertha (Savage) Roberts. As a teenager, Barbara worked at Woolworths after school and on weekends. She also worked at the Potter Polar Pantry and Rankin Manufacturing in the Summer.

In 1947, she married Warren Sterrett at Central Christian Church in Waterloo. Barbara was a homemaker for much of her life. For a few years, she worked in the food service for the high school and Peet Junior High in Cedar Falls. Barbara loved raising her two children, serving and baking pies, and preparing dinner for her family.

She was a member of First Christian Church since she was 12 years old, and was a 50-year member of Royal Neighbors of America fraternal organization. Barbara and Warren spent three months a year for nine years in the Rio Grande Valley along the Mexican border. There they met many new friends. Barbara and Warren celebrated their 60th anniversary and his 84th birthday in August of 2007, when he passed away in September of that year.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Lynn Roberts; and sister, Delores Roberts Bovis. She is survived by a son, Stephen (Teresa) Sterrett of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Sandra (Rob) McDaniel of Plano, Texas; five grandchildren, Scott Sterrett of Cedar Falls and Todd (Heather) Sterrett of Hudson, and Jason Taylor McDaniel, Austin Michael McDaniel, and Allison Michelle McDaniel all of Texas; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Drew Sterrett; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
