Friday, July 1, 2016 at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel; 3146 Kimball Avenue, Waterloo.

Visitation:
Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel; and also for one hour prior to the services on Friday.

Biography--

Clifford Junior Gates, age 87, of Waterloo, died at Ravenwood Specialty Care on Tuesday, June 28, 2016.

He was born March 29, 1929 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Clifford John Henry and Elsie Belle (Loy) Gates.

Clifford married Arlene Beverly (McBride) Shea on December 31, 1955 in Waterloo; she preceded him in death on May 31, 1995.

Clifford worked for Rath Packing Co., Gross Auction, and later for The Salvation Army. He was also a member of The Salvation Army Citadel.

He is survived by six sons: Major Michael (Major Rebecca) Gates of Grand Rapids, MI; Edward Gates of Cedar Falls, IA; Clifford (Susan) Gates of Minneapolis, MN; Robert (Valerie) Gates of Independence, MO; Thomas (Pam) Gates of Kansas City, MO; Mark (Dorothy) Gates of Warwick, NY;
by four daughters: Major Beverly Gates of Minneapolis, MN; Major Lucille Gates of Chicago, IL; Debra Gates of Waterloo, IA; and Bonnie (Jim) Daleske of Waterloo, IA; by ten Grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and by one great-great-grandchild; by three sisters: Karen Moore of Waterloo, Barbara Davis of Waterloo and Joan Hanley, of Florida; by four brothers: Larry Gates of Waterloo; Ronald Gates of Waterloo; LaVerne Gates of Florida and Donald Gates of Aurora, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers: Gary, Kenneth, Robert, and G.W. Gates; and by his sisters: LaVonne Rochholz, Sally Gates, and Betty Englehardt
