Biography--

Mildred Evelyn “Millie” Higdon, 80, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at home Tuesday, August 23, 2016, of lung cancer.

She was born August 31, 1935, in Barlow, Kentucky, the daughter of William Henry Ward and Margaret Blankenship.

She married Glen Edward Higdon on June 7, 1952 in Piggotts, Arkansas. They were happily married for 49 years. He preceded her in death on September 20, 2001.

During that time, she was employed at Herrick Refrigeration as an assembler and with Clark Supply as a paint mixer until she retired.

Millie was very proud of her three sons, Darryl, Douglas and Dwayne. She was a devoted, loving mother and grandma to her family. Millie loved to bake for Sunday dinners, was an avid reader, enjoyed working crosswords puzzles, and playing solitaire. She loved to feed the wildlife off her back deck.

She is survived by three sons: Darryl Glen (Mary) Higdon of Jesup, Douglas William (Faith) Higdon of Hoagland, Indiana, and Dwayne Edward (Shirley) Higdon of Yoder, Indiana; by ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren: Danielle (Barry) Schmidt with their children Hunter and Lexi, Nathan (Carrie) Higdon with their children Chance and Hayden, Jeremy (Natasha) Higdon with their children Corrina, Deanna, and Ellaina, Christopher (Jennifer) Higdon with their children Benjamin and Andrew, Stephanie Higdon, Matthew (Shannon) Higdon, Kayla (Paul) Reidhaar, Kaitlyn (Trent) Hulseberg, Dawn Griffith and children Trevor, Cohl, Persais, and Alaiyah, and April (Kevin) Dampier and their children Keegan and Cameron; and a brother, Bobby Ward, of Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother; and a sister.
