James Richard “Rich” Harrill, 91, of La Porte City, Iowa, died Monday, September 12, 2016, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer.
He was born October 31, 1924, in Lebanon, Missouri, the son of John and Mabel (Hafley) Harrill.
He was a 1942 graduate of Hamburg High School. He married Regina Hilton, and they were later divorced. James was united in marriage to Ellen Kitzmiller on February 9, 1970 in Dixon, Illinois.
James worked for H&W Trucking, retiring in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the La Porte City American Legion U.S.S. San Diego Post #207.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen of La Porte City; six sons: Jim (Kristi) Harrill of La Porte City, Mitch and Todd Harrill of Boone, Rick (Karen) Harrill of Pella, Brian (Jackie) Harrill of Evansdale, Michael Beason of Phoenix, AZ; by three daughters: Vicki Pecenka of Boone, Vicki (Chris) Earney of La Porte City, Sherri (Tom) Blume of Tripoli; by seventeen grandchildren; by several great-grandchildren; and by one brother, Bob (Ila Green) Harrill of Omaha, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven Harrill; one grandson, Caleb Harrill; three sisters: Helen Manrose, Carolyn Burrows, Flossie Harrill and one brother, John Harrill.
