Friday, January 6, 2017 at St. Edward Catholic Church

Visitation:
Thursday from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM with a 4pm Rosary service at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel; also one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Cemetery:
Immaculate Conception (Blessing) Cemetery

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or a hospice facility of the donor’s choice

Biography--

Zinetta Catherine Eckerman, age 103, of Waterloo, and formerly of Hudson, died on December 31, 2016 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born on May 16, 1913, in Cresco, Iowa; the daughter of Adolph and Catherine (Ferrie) Kapler. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Cresco.

Zinetta married Clarence “Jack” Eckerman on February 6, 1941, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cresco. The couple lived in Lime Springs for a year and then moved to Hudson, where they raised their two sons. Jack preceded her in death on April 16, 1997.

She was a homemaker and worked as an Avon sales agent for several years. Zinetta was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, and former member of Immaculate Conception Church and Rosary Society of Blessing, and also the Covenant Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, quilting, and volunteering.

She moved to Waterloo in 1998 and lived at Ridgeway Place Assisted Living. She had her favorite places for volunteer work, including, but not limited to, St. Vincent De Paul and hospice. She was a member of a special sewing group that made caps and colorful quilts for needy and ill children.

She is survived by two sons, Charles (Mary) Eckerman of Austin, TX and Timothy Eckerman of Glenview, IL; two step-grandchildren, Don and Cheri; four step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers: Urban, Clem, Nobert, and Francis, and a brother in infancy, Raphael; two sisters, Geneva “Sister Elwyn,” and Marguerite; daughter-in-law, Susan; and a step-granddaughter, Michelle.
