Services:
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Edward Catholic Church.

Visitation:
4-7 p.m. Friday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel and also one hour before the service at the church.

Cemetery:
Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Military rites conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49, Cedar Falls American Legion Post #237 and the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Detail.

Memorials:
May be directed to St. Edward Catholic Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Biography--

Richard M. “Dick” Newton, 90, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, died Monday, January 2, 2017 at NewAldaya Lifescapes.

He was born June 18, 1926 in Waterloo the son of Lawrence and Evelyn (Mishak) Newton. He married Mary Catherine Cox June 3, 1950, in Elkader, Iowa.

Richard served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a carpenter all his life. He worked for Art Burns Construction and also was self-employed, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Cedar Falls American Legion Post #237, Knights of Columbus and St. Edward Catholic Church.

Dick is survived by his wife Mary of Cedar Falls; two sons, Mark (Marsha) of Cedar Falls, Gregory (Jolyn) of Hastings, Minnesota; one daughter, Debra Newton of Mora, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Peter, Jessica, Sam, Adam, Kelsey and Rachel; five great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Sharon Newton of Sedalia, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kevin; one granddaughter, Elly Newton; three brothers: Ronald, Wallace and Bernard Newton; and one sister Joan Smith.
