Biography--

Sherman O. “Sherm” Smalling, 76, of La Porte City, died Friday, February 17, 2017 at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born November 30, 1940, in Waterloo, the son of Sherman Paul and Ida (Whitehead) Smalling. He was a graduate of La Porte City High School.

Sherman lived his entire life on the family farm in La Porte City, and with the help of family and caregivers was able to spend his last years living at home.

Sherman is survived by two brothers, Marlin (Mary) of Zion Crossroads, VA, and Duane of West Fargo, North Dakota; two nephews, Scott Smalling of La Porte City, Chris Smalling of Folsom, California; and by one niece, Courtney Bernsen of Charlottesville, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
