Biography--

William “Bill” E. Ehlers, 88, of La Porte City, died at La Porte City Specialty Care, on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 of complications of pneumonia.

Bill was born on January 11, 1929 in Tama County, Iowa, son of Clarence H. and Lillian Amelia (Nissen) Ehlers.

He graduated from Dike High School in 1947.

Bill married Romaine Margaret Hjulsager on Oct. 10, 1953 in Cedar Falls; she preceded him in death on November 20, 2010.

He was the manager of the La Porte City Fertilizer Plant, before retiring in 1993.

Bill was a member of American Lutheran Church in La Porte City and the La Porte City American Legion.

He is survived by a daughter, Diane (Scott) McIntosh of La Porte City; a son, Ron (Deb) Ehlers of La Porte City; two sisters, Norma Sass of Gladbrook and Beverly Becker of Gilbertville; six grandchildren: Jayson (Laurissa) Ehlers, Chris Ehlers, Shawn Mehlert, Jennifer (Pat) Ambrose, Shane Ehlers, and Amanda Ehlers; and six great-grandchildren: Nathan, Gage, Tucker, Alyson, Micah, and Conor.

Bill was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Romaine; a sister, Virginia Davis; three brothers: Clarence, Jr., Donald, and Paul Ehlers; and one great‑granddaughter, Natalie Diane.
