March 13, 1925 - July 25, 2016

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Ruth A. Bartels, 91, of Cedar Falls passed away peacefully July 25, 2016, at New Aldaya Assisted Living in Cedar Falls.

She was born March 13, 1925 in Westgate, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Anna Heller. She married Vern Bartels January 19, 1946, and moved to Cedar Falls where they raised 3 boys and lived the rest of their lives.

Ruth worked at the Ordnance plant in Ankeny during World War II, then at Firestone Tire in Cedar Falls before becoming a homemaker. She served her community as a school crossing guard, school cafeteria worker, Cub Scout den leader, volunteered at the World’s Window, and the Lutheran and Western Homes. She was an active member of Nazareth Lutheran Church for nearly 40 years.

She is survived by three sons: Carson (Deb) Bartels of Cedar Falls, Scott (Marlane) of Grove City, Ohio, and Doug (Una) of Granger; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; and by three sisters: Frieda Hirsch of Rialto, CA, Corinne Trotter of Cedar Falls, and Ann Rust of Lakeside, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Anna; her husband Vern (1996); her sisters Marie and Esther, and her brother Carl.

Visitation will be at the NewAldaya Chapel in Cedar Falls, Friday July 29, 2016, followed by a church service, and a reception immediately following. A burial for the immediate family will follow at Greenwood cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Cedar Valley.
