Rev. David P. Waterman

March 12, 1928 - August 1, 2016

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Rev. David P. Waterman, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, August 1, 2016,at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center.

He was born March 12, 1928, in Minneapolis, son of Franklin L. and Mae Elizabeth (Schoenherr) Waterman. He married Arlene Ablett on December 24, 1949 in Des Moines.

He attended Grandview College in Des Moines and graduated with a BA degree from Drake University. He received his Master of Divinity from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio and served as Pastor and Chaplain with the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church, retiring in 1989. David was a 50-year Mason and a mentor for students at Walter Cunningham School in Waterloo.

David is survived by his wife, Arlene of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Martha W. (Douglas) Nichols of Cedar Falls and Ellen R. Waterman (Richard Sladek) of Chicago, IL; two brothers, Russell Waterman of Avon, MN and Robert Waterman of Minneapolis, MN; and by a cousin, Darryl Waterman of San Bernadino, CA.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers: Harvey, Melvin, Harold, Glenn, James, Richard, Donald and Kenneth Waterman; and by four sisters: Betty Nedry, Dorothy Smogard, Lucille Garner, and Jacqueline Austin.

Services: Friday at St. Timothys United Methodist Church with private family interment in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service and also for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Western Home Communities Foundation or Walter Cunningham School.
