CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Fred L. Crane, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Ravenwood Specialty Care in Waterloo.

He was born August 13, 1924, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Fredrick A. and Mina Crane.

He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1942 and served in the United States Army during World War II as a gun crewman. He was employed at the Cedar Falls Post Office for over 32 years, from January 1947 until his retirement in 1979. He married Virginia Galloway and later divorced. He then married Patricia Dally in May of 1985, she preceded him in death.

He is survived by six sons: Michael (Pam) Crane of Newport News, Virginia, Tim Crane of Cedar Falls, J.C. Crane of Omaha, Nebraska, Bruce Crane of Stout, Iowa, Tom (Pam) Crane of St. Louis, MO, and Richard Crane of Cedar Falls; two step sons, Jim (Darcy) Dally of Parkersburg and Joe (Janet) Dally of Illinois; step daughter, Christine (Ken) Pate of Madrid; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Terry (Mary Ellen) Crane of Ankeny.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Mortensen; son Paul; step son, Patrick; step daughter, Paula; one brother, Jim; two sisters, Irene Haskins Jones and Betty Backens.

Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with interment in the Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Richardson Funeral Service, where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary followed by a time of sharing and also one hour prior to the services at the church.

Full military honors will be provided by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post#49 and the Iowa Army National Guard.
