Wallace O. Burman (1925 - 2017)

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Wallace Oren Burman, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, January 23 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo from complications of pneumonia.

He was born July 24, 1925 in Waverly, Iowa, to Clyde and Anna Burman. He married Shirley Huber on April 11, 1947 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waverly. She died June 28, 2015.

Wally graduated from Janesville High School and attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville and William Jewel College in Liberty, Mo. He served in the Pacific Theater on the U. S. Navy aircraft carrier U. S. S. Langley during World War II. After the war, he and his wife made their home in Cedar Falls. He served on various religious and local boards, including St. John Lutheran Church, the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, the Cedar Falls Board of Plumbing Examiners, and Hawkeye Community College Heating and Air Conditioning Board. Wally was a long time member of the Cedar Falls Kiwanis Club and was President and past owner of Dalton Plumbing and Heating.

Survived by: two daughters, Karen (Jim) Nicholas of Albuquerque, NM and Karol (Craig) Sturm of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Meyer, Thad (Erin) Sturm, and Matt Nicholas (D’Anna Varela); three great grandchildren, Avery and Josie Meyer and Corbin Sturm; and sister, Kathryn Walker.

Preceded in death by: his wife, Shirley; brothers, Edward, Howard, and Robert; and sister, Marjorie Walker.

Services: 2:00 p.m. Saturday at St John Lutheran Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Service, and also for an hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association or the church.

The family wishes to thank the nurses at Covenant ICU for their loving care.
