CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Elmer W. Benson, 92, of Cedar Falls died Monday, January 23, 2017, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

He was born September 23, 1924 in Cresco, Iowa, son of Oliver and Regina (Makepeace) Benson. He married Mildred I. Gunderson on September 11, 1945 in Waterloo. She died February 25, 2007.

He attended Cresco High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was employed for 36 years at Rath Packing Company, retiring in 1984.

He is survived by a daughter, Patty Fratzke of Marion; a son, Ronald Benson of Shorewood, IL; eight grandchildren: Todd, Scottie Ben, Sloan, and Nick Benson, Tiffani, Jacob (Sonya) and Mark (Molly) Fratzke, Tangee Sills; seven great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert (Monique) Benson of Williamsburg, VA.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lee Benson; and two sisters, Helen Benda and Ella Jimenez.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Nazareth Lutheran Church Chapel, Cedar Falls, with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco. Visitation for one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family.
