Nelson “Dick” Bridges (1934-2017)

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Nelson “Dick” Bridges, 82, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Cedar Falls Health Care Center, Cedar Falls.

He was born September 30, 1934 in Marshall County, Iowa, son of James and Olive (Overturf) Bridges. He married Judith Herrmeyer in June 1954 and they later divorced. He married Frances L. Schmitt on November 4, 1994 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She died May 31, 2009.

He graduated from Teachers College High School in 1953 and served in the Iowa National Guard. He was employed in sales with Sears, retiring in 1999. He was President of Sears Retirement Group and a member of Prairie Lakes Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Lavonne (Kim) Boucher of Casa Grande, AZ, and Penny (Bill) Brackett of Buckeye, AZ; a son; two step-daughters, Becky (Jim) Delong and Wanda (Dan) Steffen of Dunkerton; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Bridges of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Ross Bridges.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 20th at Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 19th at Richardson Funeral Service.
