Obituary for Stanley Orlando Ramstad

Stanley Orlando Ramstad, 87, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Windhaven Assisted Living with invaluable care from Cedar Valley Hospice, Windhaven Assisted Living and Martin Center staff.

Stan was born on August 31, 1929, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Helen (Engen) Ramstad. Stan married Bernita Sloan at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa, on May 24, 1953. The couple raised their family in Cedar Falls in the home they built and lived in for sixty years. Stan worked at Rath Packing House for thirty-seven years until it closed in 1984. Stan was an avid golfer and spent many years perfecting his golf game whenever possible. He also loved traveling to visit his children and grandchildren. Stan and Bernita attended Nazareth Lutheran Church for over 50 years where all three of their children were confirmed.

Stan is survived by his wife of 63 years; his three children: Deb (Paul) Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska, Diane Ramstad of Austin, Texas, and Ron (Peg) Ramstad of Haddonfield, New Jersey; eight grandchildren: Katie (Luke) Stater, Nicole Johnson, Erin (Jeremiah) Todd, Keil (Caitlyn) Luber, Meagan Luber, Kierstin (Tyler) Morse, Erik Ramstad and Monica Ramstad; eight great grandchildren: Creighton, Adelyn, Willa and Polly Stater, Pepper Alzuri, Everly and Warren Todd and Kent Luber; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Olive (Vernon) Grinna, and Doris (Bob) Rendleman; and a brother, Art (Jane) Ramstad.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.
