Biography--

Jean L. Jurgs, 89, of Windhaven of Western Home Communities, Cedar Falls and formerly of Lakeville and Burnsville, Minn., and Bettendorf, died at Cedar Valley Hospice Home on Thursday, July 14, 2016 of natural causes.

She was born October 3, 1926 in Edgington, Illinois, the daughter of Vernon L. and Clela L. Finley Patterson.

Jean married Donald W. Jurgs on August 17, 1946, at the University of Dubuque Chapel; he died March 10, 2001.

She graduated from Reynolds High School, attended the University of Dubuque and received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Mary Crest College in Davenport. Jean taught junior high in Guam; kindergarten, fifth grade, and middle school science in Bettendorf; and taught for a year in Colombia, South America.

She attended Windhaven Chapel of Western Home Communities. Jean had volunteered at the Andersonville, Georgia POW Museum where she recorded both audio and video stories from POW’s and then transcribed them for the museum’s archives.

Survived by two daughters, Donna (Gary) Baumgartner of Waterloo and Barbara (Michael) Koppang of West Jordan, Utah; a son, Ron (Connie) Jurgs of Davenport; two granddaughters, Amanda (Patrick) Laughton and Karma Koppang; and two great-grandsons, Isaac Laughton and Frank Laughton.
