Biography--

Jack W. Wood, 84, of Waterloo, died Thursday, July 14, 2016 at his home.

He was born July 30, 1931 in Waterloo, son of George William and Bertha Barbara Spiker Wood. He married Beverly E. Patava October 2, 1950 in Oceanside, CA. Jack graduated from East High School in 1949. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1952, most notably at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, earning the rank of Sergeant.

He was a Line Officer for Waterloo Fire & Rescue for 31 years, retiring in 1986 with the rank of Lieutenant. Jack was a member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49, Waterloo Elks #290, and Masonic Lodge #105. He is a life master Bridge player and enjoyed golf with his friend, Marvin Olds.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Waterloo; two daughters, Janice (James) Webb of Waterloo and Debra Zegarac of Eustis, FL; a son, Jeffrey (Wonda Clos) Wood of Waterloo; a brother, Larry (Madeline) Wood of Cedar Falls; a sister, Judy (Bill) Wise of Chaska, MN; two grandchildren, Jason and Carmen Wood, and four great-grandchildren, Jayden Frieberger, Camren Wood, Maci Garcia, and Kali Clos.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Julia, and a son-in-law, Nick Zegarac.
