Services:
A family service in appreciation of his life will be held Friday, March 3 at 1:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church

Visitation:
A public visitation will be held Thursday, March 2 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Locke Funeral Home with a 5:00 p.m. Masonic Service.

Cemetery:
West View Cemetery, La Porte City, with military honors.

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.

Biography--

Kay Leonard Kober passed away on February 26, 2017 in Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 98.

He was born December 21, 1918 on the family farm in La Porte City, Iowa. He graduated from La Porte City High School. He attended Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) for two years and then transferred to the University of Iowa where he received his bachelor’s degree and his law degree in 1942.

On February 14, 1944, he married Arletta Marie Refshauge from Cedar Falls, Iowa at the First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. They were married for 73 years.

Kay practiced law in Waterloo for over 65 years. He served two terms as Black Hawk County Attorney. He was active in several Waterloo civic, fraternal, and veteran organizations including Rotary Club, Black Hawk County Society for Crippled Children and Adults, Chamber of Commerce committees, Black Hawk County Republicans Central Committee, No Name Club, Elks Club, Dysart Ascalon Masonic Lodge #393 A.F. & A.M., El Kahir Shrine, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and China-Burma-India Veterans Association. He served in many capacities at the First Presbyterian Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. He was one of the founders of the First Security State Bank and of Clear Lake State Bank.

Kay was a proud U.S. Army World War II veteran who served in the China-Burma-India Theater as a Second Lieutenant Trial Judge Advocate. He was also the Commanding Officer of Co. B of the 133rd Infantry of the Iowa National Guard. During his military service, he traveled around the world by airplane and ship.

Kay was a loyal Iowa Hawkeyes fan and attended Iowa football games for over 60 years.

Kay was preceded in death by his parents, Evea Vaughn Kober and Arthur E. Kober, his sister and brother-in-law, Leo Delilah and Harold Schriever, and his son-in-law, J. William Henry.

He is survived by his wife, Arletta Kober, his daughters, Kay Mary Harrell and her husband, David, and Karilyn Kober, and his three granddaughters, Lindsay Kay Harrell, Meredith Marie Harrell, and Jensen Kober Henry. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
