Biography--

Jim “Ernie” H. Earnest, age 79, of Waterloo, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at his home.

He was born on March 19, 1937 in Waterloo; the son of Harrison and Vada (Miller) Earnest.

Ernie graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1955. He later completed a tool and die apprenticeship.

He married Kathleen “Kathy” Morrow on June 3, 1956 at Grace Brethren Church in Waterloo.

He worked as a tool and die maker at Woodring and Wise Machine Shop and at Precision Tool and Die for several years, he later became co-owner of E+M Tool and Die for many years and then owned Industrial Steel, retiring in 2014.

Ernie was a member of Grace Fellowship Church, he was active in the men’s quartet, held elder positions, and taught Ambassador Sunday School for over 40 years. He enjoyed leading worship services and bowling.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Kathy; a son, Tim (Shari) Earnest of St. Paul, MN; three daughters, Vadine (Mike) Henninger of Oelwein, Lisa (Wayne) Likes of Waterloo; and Debbie (Kurt Frey) Earnest of Madison, WI; over 50 foster children; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and three sisters, Rose Earnest, Margaret Henkle and Wanda Holm all of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Loftus; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Henkle and Edward Holm.
