Rosalia "Rose" Sadler

December 6, 1929 - March 4, 2017

Today we say goodbye to Rosalia “Rose” Neisen Sadler, 87 who passed away peacefully at home with her children at her side. Rose was born to Fred and Della Neisen in (Gilbertville) where they lived on a farm. During the depression, the family sold off all their assets and moved into town. Rose enjoyed her time living with her Aunt Edna’s family for a couple of months until her family was able to begin rebuilding. She was very close to her younger brother Ray. Both learned their work ethic and tenacity from their parents.

Rose spent her time at East High School taking courses that lead her to being an executive secretary at Rath Packing Plant. On her nights off she loved to go to the local dances and cut a rug to the big band music. Throughout her life she loved to dance, laugh and have fun.

Rose married Eugene “Gene” Sadler in (1952) and they headed to Big Springs, TX, where he was stationed in the Air Force. After traveling around with Gene in the Air Force, Gene and Rose moved back to Waterloo, IA. Rath Packing Plant office team begged her to come back to work as an executive secretary as soon as they found out she was back in town. Rose worked at Rath until 1965, leaving due to being pregnant with her daughter Linda. One year, five months and ten days after Linda was born, here came her son James “Jim” in 1966.

Rose stayed home for the next seven years to raise Linda and Jim. She was super mom, super wife and super household manager! There wasn’t even any processed food in the house, everything was homemade. She even baked bread twice a week. She designed her own kitchen and did the entire demo herself. Rose assisted in Gene’s side business buying, refinishing and selling antiques. She handled all the family finances. She made sure the family was ready to take off every weekend for J-Wood Park Campground every summer. Rose managed the household like a CEO, only with kindness and love.

Once her kids were in school full time, Rose was back to work this time at Black Hawk Publishing where she agreed to work for three months to help get the business going, however she ended up staying for until she retired in 1989 at the age of 59. Despite having a fulltime job, Rose kept her super mom, super wife and super household manager role. Long into her retirement, she never could explain how she did it.

Rose and Gene hung out for a couple of years in the Waterloo area during the winters and camping at J-Wood Park Campground in Garnavillo, IA during the summer. In December, 1991 Gene and Rose became Snow Birds arriving at Weaver’s Needle Resort staying for four months. They fell in love with the resort and the people there. Before they left AZ, they had purchased a place of their own at Weaver’s Needle. They remained snow birds, living between Weaver’s Needle and J-Wood until July 1989. After surviving two tornados at J-Wood within a month, they said. “Forget this!” sold out, packed up and moved permanently to Weavers Needle in Apache Junction, AZ.

While at Weavers Needle, Rose volunteered every morning at the office from 8am until noon. She met and maintained a plethora of friends. Laughter and conversation always surrounded them. Rose and her friends enjoyed gambling trips, going to shows, lunches out, birthday celebrations and happy hours at Weaver’s Needle.

In 2011, after Gene passed away in August, Rose went back to Weaver’s Needle one last season before selling out and moving back to Evansdale at Fox Meadow Independent Living. Rose volunteered at Fox Meadow for years being the treasurer, calling Bingo and being in charge of the emergency keys. Once again, Rose made so many good friends. She enjoyed playing Bingo, cards and slot machines.

Rose lived a full and happy life. She stepped into each situation with a positive attitude which stayed with her until the day she passed. She surrounded herself with friends and family throughout her life because she was never without a smile and a friendly conversation.
