2:00 PM on Friday, March 10, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: 3006 Pheasant Dr, Cedar Falls, IA 50613

Visitation:
4:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 9, at Locke Funeral Home; also one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.

Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo

Biography--

Daniel L. "Danny" Pettit, Sr., 74, of Waterloo, Iowa, died on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at NorthCrest Specialty Care following a lengthy illness.

He was born on March 11, 1942 in Waterloo; the son of Cecil Leon and Muriel (Peck) Pettit. Danny married Terry Lane Wood on August 13, 1978 in Des Moines.

Danny worked as an over the road truck driver for Pettit Trucking, he had also worked as an auto body technician and mechanic.

Danny was a good family man, and an amazing Dad who always smiled. He was a stock car driver, and was a nationally-ranked hill-climbing motorcyclist. He was the youngest member of the American Motorcycle Association when he joined.

He enjoyed Flea Markets, karaoke, Pettie parties, motorcycles, and fast cars. Danny could build and fix just about anything, he was great with directions and was a walking GPS. He liked to go fishing to think and reflect.

Survivors include his wife, Terry; a son, Daniel (Amy) Pettit, Jr. of Cedar Falls; six daughters, Brenda Pettit of Manchester, Tammy (Neil Thomas) Pettit of Alden, Toni Odom of Fort Meyers, FL, Luanne (Mike) Fankhauser of Waterloo, Cowanda (Jesse) Pettit of Waterloo, and Tanaha Pettit of Waterloo; 32 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Cecil “Doot” Sommerfelt of Waterloo; and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dick Pettit and Junior Patten, and a sister, Marylin Sommerfelt Niedert.
