Douglas “Doug” Freeland

September 18, 1970 - May 30, 2016

Douglas “Doug” Duane Freeland was born September 18, 1970 in Waterloo, Iowa: the son of Chuck and Nancy (Villhauer) Freeland. He graduated from West High School with the class of 1989. Douglas then attended and received his associate degree in Electronics Engineering, from Hawkeye Community College. He worked at John Deere as an electrician for the past 14 years. Doug liked to spend time in his flower garden, woodworking and target shooting. He also enjoyed stock car racing, golfing and snowmobiling. He had a very special basset hound named Jeorge. Doug also had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews.

Doug died at home peacefully, in his sleep, on Monday, May 30, 2016 at the age of 45.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Vernon “Mick” Freeland; maternal grandparents, Philip and Margaret Villhauer; and three uncles: Mike and Vernon Freeland and Stanley Villhauer.

Doug is survived by his parents: Chuck and Nancy Freeland of Waterloo; paternal grandmother Mary Freeland of Waterloo; two brothers, Joe (Julie) Freeland of Alburnett and Tim (Nancy) Freeland of Dysart; a sister Lisa Freeland of Waterloo; and nine nieces and nephews: Carah Mabry, Jennifer, Joey, Jill, Stephanie, Sarah, Emily, Katie and T.J. Freeland.

A memorial fund is being established.
