Gilbertville, Iowa – Norbert F. Even, 84 of Gilbertville, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016, from respiratory failure at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Gilbertville with Military Rites conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post #714. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 30th at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, Iowa, where there will be a 5:00 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary and a 6:30 p.m. Vigil Service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services, Tuesday, at the church. Memorials will be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Norbert was born March 9, 1932, in Black Hawk County, Iowa, the son of Joseph Herman Even and Rose Mary (Mangrich) Even. From 1951 to 1953 he served in the US Army, including overseas duty during the Korean War. On May 5, 1953, he was united in marriage to Jean Elizabeth Emerson at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Evansdale, IA. Norbert worked over 30 years as a carpenter for Youngblut Construction and continued on his own part time during his retirement. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post #714, and the Catholic Order of Foresters all in Gilbertville.

Norbert is survived by five sons, Kevin (Kim) Even, Joseph (Diane Steimel) Even, Dennis (Kathy) Even all of Gilbertville, Gary (Rhonda Zieser) Even of Independence, Iowa, Brian (Kristi) Even of Oceanside, Calif.; three daughters, Dixie (Butch) Frawley of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Monica (Terry) Frost of Gilbertville, Kathy (Grant) Masteller of Jesup; 26 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Tony Even of Gilbertville, Ted (Delores) Even of Waterloo, Jerry (Connie) Even of Gilbertville; one sister, Sr. Therese Even, SSND of Mankato, Minnesota; one sister in law, Berniece Even of Jesup.

He is preceded in death by his parents; also his wife, Jean (Dec. 2, 2008); two sons, Greg Even and Rodney Even, Sr.; one granddaughter, Stephanie Rutledge; three brothers, Cletus Even, Joe Even and Leonard Even; two sisters, Mary Fischels and Sr. Monica Even, SSND; and two sisters-in-law, Ella Even and Maxine Even.
