Biography--

Dennis Coffin, 66, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, May 17, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital of a heart attack.

He was born July 17, 1949, son of Howard and Verna Westemeier Coffin. He married Peg Jones and became step father to two sons, Judd and Anson, in 1984.

He graduated from West High School in 1967. After graduation, Denny served two years in the Army, spending a year and a half in Vietnam. He was employed with John Deere, as a machine operator for 30 years, retiring in 2003.

Survived by: two step sons, Judd (Minh) Jones and Anson Jones; a step granddaughter, Jenna; his father, Howard (Dianne) Coffin; four sisters, Debra (Roger) Truax, Denise (Bill) Gehrke, Darla (Jeff) Baud and Dee (Mark) McDonald; and four brothers, Dan (Joni) Coffin, Dave (Cindy) Coffin, Don (Mary) Coffin, and Doug (Jan) Coffin.

Preceded in death by his wife, Peg Coffin, his mother Verna Coffin, and his brother Dean Coffin.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1623 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church.

Denny was an avid bowler and very much loved his family. He was a volunteer bowling coach for Columbus, volunteer optimist baseball coach with his dad, Howard, and preschool volunteer.
