David A. Paar
January 26, 1944 - May 14, 2016
David A. Paar, 72, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Saturday May 14, at his home after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born January 26, 1944 in Waterloo, son of Arthur and Catherine McGinnis Paar. He married Linda K. Sims Jan. 17, 1969 at St. Edward Catholic Church, Waterloo.
David attended St. Mary School and Columbus High School, graduating in 1962. He graduated from John Deere Apprentice School and was employed as Machine Maintenance Supervisor with John Deere for 36 years, retiring in 2000.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sara Paar of Waterloo; a son, Andrew Paar of North Liberty; a sister, Joan Duarte of Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Ronald (Rosemary) of Woodbury, Minn. and Michael (Catalina) of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a nephew, David Duarte, in infancy.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at St. Edward Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo and Evansdale Amvets and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for one hour before services at the church on Thursday.
Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, St. Vincent DePaul, North East Iowa Food Bank, or the church.
