There Will Be a Family Directed Memorial Service at a Later Date

Betty Lou Kies was born August 16, 1937, in Waterloo, Iowa, daughter of Carl Louis and Evelyn Herrick (Nagle) Deeds. She spent part of her childhood in the Cedar Rapids area, however her family returned to Waterloo where she graduated from East High School with the Class of 1955.

Following graduation, Betty attended Gates Business College. She was united in marriage to Thomas Kies on June 10, 1961 in Waterloo. Betty’s first job was with the Tippy-Tin-Inn as a waitress at 14 years of age.

She also worked for her father at Hawkeye Foods, then John Deere Tractor Works in the personnel department for many years. Betty, then, joined her husband in real estate earning both her realtor and broker’s licenses. She ended her career by supporting her husband in his appraisal business. Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Waterloo Elklets serving as a Noble Dame.

Betty passed away at the age of 78 years at Covenant Medical Center on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from natural causes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Carl F. Deeds; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Deeds; and her beloved aunt Ada and uncle Frank.

Betty is survived by her husband, Tom of Waterloo; daughter Karla (Ron) Lower of Johnston, Iowa; grandchildren, Amanda L. (Evan) Fesenmeyer of Cedar Falls and Ryan T. Lower of Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida; brothers, Richard (Sandy) Deeds of Mann’s Choice, Pennsylvania, Donald (Peggy) Deeds of Atkins, Iowa, and David (Carole) Deeds of Cedar Falls; sister-in-law, Marilyn Deeds of Evansdale, Candie Jamerson McKenna of Lancaster, PA, who she considered another daughter; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

According to Betty’s wishes there will be no viewing or services at this time. She was cremated and she now resides in heaven. Her love will be with us forever.
