MARTIN, LACHMILLER, STRAYER, BURTNETT

Orla S. Martin, 97, died at Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo at 12:05 Monday of arteriosclerosis.

Mr. Martin was born at Durrant, Illinois, on November 30, 1862. He moved to Iowa at the age of 14, living first at Webster City and then at Greene. He came to Waterloo in 1902, where he was a plastering contractor until 1932. Since that time he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Velma Strayer at Hudson.

Orla Martin was married to Katherine Lachmiller at Webster City on December 24, 1883. His wife died on March 25, 1932. He was a member of the Cemtral Christian Church in Waterloo where he was an elder for many years.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Velma Strayer of Hudson; three sons: Voil of 620 Linden Avenue, Waterloo, Earl of Victorville, California, Darrell of Ventura, California; a sister, Mrs. Sam Burtnett of Webster City; two brothers, Charles of Webster City, Ray of Des Moines; nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters and one brother.

Funeral services were held at the Hudson Community Church on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Hudson Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Albert Weeks, John Iseminger, Vaughn Craft, Harry Lafrenz, Jr., Harold Witry and Donald Lafrenz.

Dies in Hudson
At Age of 97

HUDSON - Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hudson Community Church for Orla S. Martin, 97, who died Monday at Schoitz Memorial Hospital, Waterloo.

Mr. Martin was thought to be the oldest member of the Hudson community. He moved to Waterloo from Greene in 1902 and worked as a plastering contractor until his wife died in 1932. THen he moved to Hudson to live with his daughter, Mrs. Velma Strayer.

Survivors in addition to Mrs. Strayer are three sons: Voil, Waterloo, Earl, Victorville, Calif.; Darrell, Ventura, Calif.

Burial will be in Hudson Cemetery.
