Funeral services for Lucille Hardee Newman, 89, of 220 Valley Drive 8B, formerly of Waterloo, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball. She passed away on Saturday, July 17, 1999 at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center of natural causes.

Lucille was born July 3, 1910 in Waterloo, the daughter of Ora T. and Pearl May Smith Hickman. She married Earl V. Hardee on February 11, 1927 in Waterloo. He died May 30, 1978. She married Walter "Johnny" Newman on May 28, 1988 in La Porte City.

Mrs. Hardee was employed at the Rath Packing Company for 28 years, retiring in 1972.

She is survived by her husband, four daughters: Jean L. Richmond of Evansdale, Betty L. Halligan of Hudson, Sharon E. Alcott of Evansdale, and Sandra L. Schares of Lansing; one brother, Dale Hickman of Ephrado, Washington; two sisters, Marilyn Deeds and Virginia Barnett, both of Waterloo; thirty-five grandchildren, seventy-two great-grandchildren; twenty great-great grandchildren, eight step children, and nineteen step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl Hardee, two sons, William Hardee and Earl V. Hardee, Jr., six brothers: Jack, trecil, claude, Harold, Verle and Paul, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
