Dennis J. “Lefty” O’Connor, 72, died Monday, April 11 at Country View Care Center.

He was born October 1, 1943 in Waterloo, son of Maurice and Mary Jane Weber O’Connor. He married Karen Schmitz on January 6, 1968 at Sacred Heart in Waterloo. She died April 11, 2014.

Dennis served in the U. S. Air Force. He was employed in the foundry at John Deere Tractor Mfg. Co. for twenty-six years, retiring in 1998.

He is survived by a son, Michael (Pam) O’Connor of Waterloo; a daughter, Lori Fillipp of South Elgin, Illinois; three grandchildren, Brady O’Connor, Aaron Fillipp and Haley Fillipp; six sisters, Marilyn (Dick) Weber of Waterloo, Ann (Earl) Buller of Evansdale, Peggy (Rick) Mott of Waterloo, Sister Susan O’Connor, R.S.M. of Cedar Rapids, Maureen O’Connor of Waterloo, Cate (Rick) Grout of Riverside; a brother, Kevin (Sharon) O’Connor of Waterloo.; a sister-in-law, Mary O’Connor of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mike and Tom O’Connor.

Services will be Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary. Visitation also for an hour preceding services at the church. Full military rites will be conducted by the Offutt Air Force Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice.
