Biography--

Lorraine D. Van Vark, age 78, of La Porte City, died Friday, April 8, 2016, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

She was born March 1, 1938 in Rodman, Iowa the daughter of Carl and Velma Gilbert Lenz. Lorraine graduated from Rodman High School with the Class of 1956. She was united in marriage with Theodore “Ted” Rasmussen in July 1957 and the couple later divorced.

She married Ronald W. Shissler on November 4, 1971 in Des Moines, Iowa and he preceded her in death on May 8, 1988. Later in life, she married Glen Van Vark and they later divorced after 10 years of marriage.

In early years, Lorraine worked as a keypunch operator and also in the banking industry. She was a longtime homemaker and enjoyed gardening and time spent with family. She was a member of the La Porte City Garden Club and the Knit Club.

Survivors include her four children: Dodie Lynn of Shoreline, Wash., Ron (Monica) Shissler of Everett, Wash., Kris Hart of Elkhart, Indiana, and Bruce (Denise) Rasmussen of Earlham, Iowa; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Gary (Gisela) Lenz of Del Rio, Texas, Mary Bruhn of Caldwell, Idaho, Susan Burch of La Porte City, Wayne (Janice) Lenz of Boise, Idaho, and Bob (Peggy) Lenz of Rockford, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Ronald and Donald Rasmussen; a daughter, Kathleen Rasmussen; four sisters, including her twin sister, Lois Peterson, Jeanne Larson, Judy Tisdale and Joanne Tripp; and two brothers, Rich and Don Lenz.
