Edwin Bertheau

November 9, 1923 - March 31, 2016

Edwin J. Bertheau 92, of Cedar Falls died March 31 at Allen’s Unity Point Hospital.

He was born November 9, 1923 in San Diego, California, son of John Christian Bertheau and Christina Pearson Bertheau. He married Jean Elaine Frederick on May 19, 1945. She died August 7, 2007.

Ed attended school in Long Beach California. He served in World War 2 on the USS Halibut as a Torpedo Man’s Mate First Class. His work career included Rath Packing, Yellow Pages, Sears, and John Deere.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth (Myrna) Bertheau; his daughter Annette (David) Tolander; granddaughters: Sarah Bertheau, Stephanie (Grant) Zielinski, Kristina (Trent) Wellman; and by five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and great-grandchild, Sean Lundy.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 7 at 3:30 at the Hudson United Methodist Church, Hudson Iowa.

Memorials will be directed to Cedar Valley Honor Flights. Online condolences will be forwarded to the family.

Ed loved his family, the sea, flowers, and warm sunny days.
