FUNERAL NOTICE:

LA PORTE CITY,IOWA - Rosella Marion “Rose” Christian, 95, of La Porte City, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

Services: Monday, Feb. 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City; visitation 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb 14, at the church, with a 3 p.m. rosary; visitaton also an hour before services at the church; memorials to the family for later designation; La Porte City Funeral Home, 342-3131, is in charge of arrangements.

Rosella Marion "Rose" Christian
Died: Feb. 9, 2016

Biography--

Rosella Marion “Rose” Christian, 95, of La Porte City, died Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born September 13, 1920 in Le Mars the daughter of Nicholas J. and Margaret (Penne) Mertes. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in Le Mars. She married Lu Verne Christian on January 15, 1941 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on March 5, 1996.

Rose was a busy farm wife. She was a 4H leader, a volunteer in the community for many years at the La Porte City Senior Center, La Porte City Nursing Home and Cedar Valley Hospice. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Catherine’s Circle.

She is survived by two daughters, Wanita Spece of Vinton, Marilyn (Gerald) Johnson of Newhall; a niece, who she raised, Julie Mask of Waterloo; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; five grand nieces and nephews; ten great-grandnieces and nephews; one sister, Addie Craft of La Porte City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Matthew Mertes and a son-in-law, Darrell Spece.

Services:
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church - La Porte City
