Janet “Jan” Mortensen (1947-2016)

WATERLOO, IOWA - Janet “Jan” Mortensen, 68, of Waterloo, died Thursday, February 4, 2016, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

She was born September 25, 1947, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Virginia (Galloway) Crane. She married Mark Hughes in 1968 and they later divorced. She married John Mortensen in January 1990. He died in May 1996.

She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1965 and worked at various restaurants in the metro area.

She is survived by two sons, Mark (Brenda) Hughes of Garnett, KS, and Michael (Amanda) Hughes of Topeka, KS; a step son, Steve (Tammy) Mortensen of Owatonna, MN; a step daughter, Tammy (Rick) Sharp of League City, TX; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her father, Fred Crane of Cedar Falls; and six brothers: Michael (Pam) Crane of Newport News, VA, Tim Crane of Waterloo, J.C. Crane of Omaha, NE, Bruce Crane of Stout, Tom (Pam) Crane of St. Louis, and Richard Crane of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her mother; a granddaughter, Kelly Sharp; a brother, Paul Crane; and a sister-in-law, Diana Crane.

Memorial Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Service with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
