EVANSDALE, IOWA - Avice L. Potter, 89 years old of Evansdale, died Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa.

She was born March 5, 1926, the daughter of Richard M. Rowell and Zelda A. (Lickiss) Rowell. She was born at the home of Uncle Ray & Aunt Cecil which was at Richland Township in rural Strawberry Point.

Avice lived on several farms and several rented homes as she grew up. She lived with "Prof" & Mrs. North during her last 2 years in high school, receiving $1.50 plus room and board to babysit their 3 children.

Avice was a steady worker and a real advocate for family and friends. She started as a bank teller at American National Bank in Arlington, IA, two weeks before high school graduation in 1943, and continued working there until marriage in October of 1945. On October 18, 1945, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, George Edward Potter in Independence, IA. He preceded her in death, November 15, 1998.

Soon after they were married, they moved to West Amana, IA where George worked in the milking barns. In 1950, they moved to Waterloo, where she worked at the Cedar Falls Trust & Savings until her son Randall was born in 1965. She served as bookkeeper for Alumaline Cutlery from 1960 until it was sold in 1971, and then assisted George at their knife factory, GAPCO, until it sold in 1985. She did not stop there, becoming travel agent at Humble Travel in 1985; in 1989 she moved to Travel Store until she became ill in 2000. From 1985-2000, she escorted travel groups to places around the world!

Avice was Baptized at Methodist Church in Greely, IA, and was currently a member of Grace Reformed Church, Waterloo, IA where she faithfully attended church services.

Avice used the word, "loving”, to describe herself. Friends and family can all vouch for her interest in their lives, always extending a helping hand.

Avice is survived by 3 daughters, Georgia (Thomas) Stoeber of Cedar Rapids, IA, Nancy (Ricky) Macomber of Evansdale, IA, and Phyllis (Daniel) Smith of Washburn, IA; 1 son, Randall(Joanna) Potter of Fort Dodge, IA; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and 1 sister, Sharon Burke of Waterloo, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, 1 son Bruce Edward Potter, 1 sister, Alberta Norman, and 3 brothers Marlin Rowell, Merwin Rowell, and Robert Rowell.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. – Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the Grace Reformed Church, Waterloo, IA; with Pastor David VanNetten officiating. Burial will be at the Taylorville Cemetery, Arlington, IA. Visitation will be 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Friday at the Grace Reformed Church 520 Maxwell St., Waterloo, IA. Visitation will continue an hour before services Saturday, at the church.

Memorials will be directed to the church and to the Black Hawk County Meals on Wheels program. White Funeral Home of Jesup; is in charge of arrangements.
