Leonard “Link” Curtis Johnson was born on April 21, 1936 in Eagle Grove, Iowa to Henry and Estella (Keister) Johnson. He attended Eagle Grove Schools until his family moved to Waterloo. Link graduated from East High in 1954. He joined the Navy in 1954 as an Aircraft Mechanic. Link married Karen Norcott on June 14, 1957 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Kansas. He retired from John Deere as an Experimental Tractor Mechanic in 1990. Link enjoyed fishing, wood working, cards, board games, Gunsmoke, and animals; how many people can say they had a pet raccoon and geese? Link and Karen enjoyed wintering in Texas, and they especially enjoyed their time doing couples dancing. His life was devoted to his church and his family, as they were the most important part of his life. Link could regularly be found at sporting events being the family’s cheerleader. Words cannot describe how much he cared for his family and friends.

Link, 79, joined the Lord his Savior, from complications of lung cancer surgery on Wednesday, January 27, 2016.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; his sons: Robert (Felicia) Johnson of Pace, Florida and Mark (Lisa) Johnson of Vinton; his daughter Dawn (Jerry Robinson) Hendershot of Mt. Auburn; nine grandchildren: Danielle (Chad) Meyer, Jamie (Ryan) Trebon, Brianna and Brenna Mausser, Corey Johnson, Ryan (Emily) Johnson-Willett, Angela (Chris) Collier, Joshua and Nicholas Johnson; two great-granddaughters: Sydney Bucknell and Alexis Collier; three great-grandsons: Ethen and Brock Meyer and Keaton Trebon; a sister: Faye Johnson of Chula Vista, California; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Link was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Edward, Leo, Gerald, Ray, Robert and Merle Johnson; two sisters: Donna Murray, and Myrtle Price Roeding; and a great-granddaughter Hailey Rae Bucknell.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.
