December 5, 1979 - January 12, 2016

Jon David Wirtz, 36, of Red Oak, Texas, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, January 12, at the Baylor University Medical Center.

He was born December 5, 1979, in Waterloo, the son of Stephen and Patricia Walton Wirtz. He married Angela Etzell on June 26, 2009 in Burleson, Texas.

Jon graduated from Jesup High School in 1998 and served in the United States Navy for almost 10 years until retiring for health reasons. After retirement, he received an engineering degree and was employed with ERMC under contract for Southwest Airlines at Dallas Love Field.

Survivors include: his wife, Angela of Red Oak, Texas; three children; Andrew, Christian, and Madison at home; his parents, of Waterloo; four brothers, Steve (Kari) of Glidden, Jeff (Carman) of Marysville, Ohio, Mark (Heather) of Marysville, Ohio and Kevin (Tanya) of Waterloo; his maternal grandmother, Eva Chesmore of Waterloo; father and mother-in-law, Mike and Lauri Etzell of Colorado Springs, Colo; seven brother-in-laws, four sister-in-laws, fourteen nephews, eight nieces, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Walton; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Arlene Wirtz; an uncle, Dan Wirtz; maternal step-grandfather, Kenny Chesmore; his mother-in-law, Katie Brouillette.

Services: Friday, January 22, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31, assisted by the United States Naval Honor Guard. Public visitation from 4-8 P.M. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street.
