July 8, 1933 - January 12, 2016

Charles J. Henkle, 82, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, January 12 at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center.

He was born July 8, 1933 in Buchanan County, son of Jacob T. and Mary R. Hay Henkle. He married Margaret Earnest Staley in Waterloo.

Charles was employed at Rath Packing Company and was a US Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark (Missy) Staley of Washington; two daughters, Sheila Stover of Nora Springs and Irene (Spence Jensen) Chester of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren, Donna (Ben) Boyer, Scott (Stephanie) Stover, Cody Johnson, Brandon Sinclair, John Johnson, Rachel, Michael and Jonathan Mecklenburg and Patty (Kendall Walton) Mecklenburg and Justin and Kasey Staley; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Connie) Henkle of Evansdale; two sisters, Evelyn Gautney and Zelda (Paul) Dinnibier both of Waterloo; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Henkle of Evansdale and Tomiko Henkle of Waterloo and a brother-in-law, Jake DeVoogd of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Albert and Ivan; and by two sisters, Frances Van Gorder and Mary DeVoogd.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service South Street with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be for an hour before services.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
