LaVerne Francis Schneiders was born on May 17, 1927 to Aloysius and Eleanora (Kramer) Schneiders. He had the option to finish out high school or go to music school and he chose to go to music school. LaVerne joined the Army and was a Korean War Veteran.

He married Mary Earle on May 21, 1949, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo and were married until her passing in August of 1999. LaVerne and Mary were devoted foster parents for 28 years. He received his diploma at Hawkeye Technical College in 1989 at the age of 62.

LaVerne was a mechanic at Martineau for 30 years and then worked for Hooks until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed working on cars, woodworking and music. LaVerne also loved to make all of the birthday cakes for his family members. He was a family man, and spent as much time with his loved ones as he could.

LaVerne, 88, passed away on January 7, 2016 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary; a granddaughter, Valerie Schneiders; and a great-grandson, David Johnson. LaVerne is survived by two sons: Kit (LuAnn) Schneiders and Robert Schneiders; two daughters: Karen Norman and Lisa Hruska-Schneiders; ten grandchildren: April, Michael, Jessica, Kayla, Stephen, Jamie, Zachary, Andrew, Gabrial and Rowan; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: LeRoy (Valene) Schnieders and Merle (Mary Anne) Schnieders; and three sisters: Ilene O’Connell, Mary Lou Parkinson and Shirley Hallett.

He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and he will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.
