George Thomas Clark (1927-2016)

NEW HARTFORD, IOWA - George Thomas Clark, 88, of New Hartford, died Sunday January 3, 2016, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

He was born December 10, 1927 in Oelwein, son of George L. Clark and Julia Robinson Clark. He married Emmy Heiple in 1947, they later divorced. He married Dorothy Jean Bohnsack on September 28, 1958. She died August 27, 2004.

George graduated from Stanley High School in 1945. He attended Upper Iowa University until he joined the Army where he was a stenographer stationed in San Francisco, California. He worked at John Deere & Company and Chamberlain Manufacturing before becoming owner and operator of Waterloo Wood Bearing Company from 1970, until his retirement in 1991.

George was a member of Elks Lodge in Waterloo, Black Hawk Lodge #65 A.F. and A.M. in Cedar Falls, and First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls.

He is survived by two daughters, Susan (Richard) Meyer of New Hartford and Elizabeth (Alan) Larson of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Max Rankin and Mikki (Brian) Strelow; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Sherwood of Princeville, IL and Joan Provow of Pleasantville; and a special friend Dorothy J. Brown of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Irene Cole, Margaret Mason, Louise Dodd; and a grandson, Scooter Rankin.

Services: Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls. Military Honors will be provided by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, where there will be a 7 p.m. public Masonic service.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or to the family for later designation.
