Robert P. McElligott

August 20, 1926 - January 6, 2016

Robert P. McElligott, 89, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born August 20, 1926, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of James and Mary Engle McElligott. He married Marilyn Hennessey on August 12, 1952 in Monti.

Bob was a C.P.A., owning and operating R. J. McElligott Accounting for over 40 years. Following retirement he worked for VGM & Associates, one of his former clients. He was Past President of the Waterloo Lyons Club and was a Dale Carnegie instructor for 30 years.

Survivors include three sons, Michael (Maria) of Wilkesboro, North Carolina, Terry (Sue McBride) of Waterloo and Tim (Pat) of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Michelle (Kevin) Ryan of West St. Paul, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Jeremiah, Jenny, Katie, Nick and Pete and eight great grandchildren, Jacob, Jillian, Taylor, Bennett, Macey, Bowen, Henry and Quinn; and a brother, Dan McElligott of Manchester.

Preceded in death by: four sisters, Patricia Wendel, Marita Monahan, Irene Keenan and Marcy Mottet; and three brothers, Frank, Ed and Larry McElligott.

Services will be Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial at Mt. Olivet, where military honors will be conducted by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there be a 4 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue at the church for an hour before services on Saturday.

Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Church, Birthright or the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.
