James B. Schaefer

James B. Schaefer, 76, of Eagle Center, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 6 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born January 31, 1939 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of George and Bertha Stohr Schaefer. He married Beverly J. Frost, October 19, 1964, in Eagle Center.

James farmed in the area for many years.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters: Lisa (Chad) Schmidt of Hudson, Karla (Lee) Scharnhorst of Fairbank, Ranae (Chris) Harrington of Memphis, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Kaylee (Steven) McGarvey, Krista and Cody Schmidt, Morgan and Taylor Scharnhorst, Cayton, Liam, Avery and Brinkley Harrington; three brothers, John (Sue) of LaPorte City, Carl (Janet) and George (Donna) both of Eagle Center and a sister-in-law, Sue Schaefer of Hudson.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Schaefer; two brothers, Bob and Harold and two sisters, Geraldine (Bernard) Valenta and Barbara (Jim) Weber.

Services will be Saturday at St. Mary’s of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Public visitation will be from 3-8 pm Friday at the church where there will be a 3 pm rosary. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church on Saturday. Hagarty – Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Kidney Foundation.
