Public visitation will be held for an hour prior to the services at the American Lutheran Church.

Cemetery:
Burial in West View Cemetery with Full Military Honors accorded by USS San Diego American Legion Post 207 of La Porte City.

Biography--

Loren A. Smith, age 93 of La Porte City, died Saturday, December 19, 2015 at La Porte City Specialty Care.

He was born June 2, 1922 in South Fork Township, Delaware County, Iowa the son of Andy and Emma Behrends Smith. Loren graduated from Buck Creek Consolidated School with the Class of 1939. He was united in marriage with Cecelia Eileen Mohr on May 1, 1941 in Hopkinton, Iowa. She preceded him in death on February 20, 2012.

Loren worked in the retail lumber business for 56 years, including owning and operating La Porte City Lumber Co. for many years. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II in Luzon and the Philippines. Loren was a member of the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City, the American Legion, the 37th Division Association and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include three sons: Philip (Brenda) Smith of La Porte City, Lawrence Smith of Waterloo and Douglas Smith of La Porte City; a daughter, Sharon Myers of Mt. Auburn; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son-in-law, Ron Myers; a daughter-in-law, Vella Smith; a great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Harold and Glenn Smith; and a sister, Edna Burns.
