James “Jim” Quinn
March 15, 1932 - December 11, 2015

James “Jim” Lyle Quinn was born on March 15, 1932, in Dinsdale, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Enid (Romick) Quinn. Jim grew up in Traer and graduated from Traer High School. He then served his country in the United States Air Force. He was an air craft mechanic in The Philippines during the Korean Conflict.

On July 7, 1952, Jim was united in marriage to Shirley Waterman in Marshalltown. The couple made their home in Waterloo where Jim worked as a pressman for the Waterloo Courier for 40 years. After his retirement from the Courier, Jim worked part time at Car Quest in Waterloo. He also held a commercial pilot’s license and flew small engine aircrafts.

Jim was very active with Nichols Aviation in La Porte City. He enjoyed building model airplanes, flying, crossword puzzles, and reading. Jim died at the age of 83 on Friday, December 11, 2015, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Waterloo; three daughters, Rhonda (Michael) Saunders of Vinton, Leasa (Brian) Killeaney of Prior Lake, Minnesota, and Lori (Jeremy) Bennett of Panora; a brother, Richard K. Quinn of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; twin sons, James L. and Ronald L. Quinn; a sister, Patricia Quinn; a brother, Paul D. Quinn; and a sister in law, Patsy Quinn.

In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the family.

Burial will be held at Buckingham Cemetery in rural Traer with military rites conducted by the Traer American Legion.
