Josephine “Jo” Pries, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Sartori Memorial Hospital.
Jo was born December 11, 1926, in Readlyn, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert & Minnie (Sell) Pries. Jo graduated from Wartburg College with her Bachelor’s degree in 1949 and received her Master’s degree in counseling from the University of Northern Iowa in 1967. Jo taught physical education at Belle Plaine, was teen age program director of Y.W.C.A. of Neenah Menash, Wisconsin, taught at LaPorte City for six years, College Community in Cedar Rapids for four years, and also taught in the Readlyn School system. She was on student personal staff at UNI from 1967-1968, counselor at West Junior High School in Waterloo from 1968-1971 and was a counselor at Cedar Falls High School from 1971 until her retirement in 1988. Jo was a charter member of Friends of the Cedar Falls Public Library.
Survivors include five nephews, James (Velda) Hagenow, of Readlyn, Steve (Margie) Pries, of Katy, Texas, Mark (Lesley) Pries, of Iowa City, John (Janet) Pries, of Elkader and Dan Pries of Oakley, Kansas.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and wife, Clarence (June) Pries and her sister and husband, Mildred (Henry) Hagenow; two great nephews, Jeff and Mitch Hagenow
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, with inurnment in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Readlyn, Iowa. Visitation with refreshments will be one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the church. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
