Harold was born November 27, 1934, at his family’s home in Shickley, NE, the son of Abraham L. Troyer and Emma (Eichelberger) Troyer. After high school graduation from Hesston Academy, Harold spent time working before enrolling at Hesston College majoring in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Science and Math. Following graduation from Hesston and some time teaching, he decided to return to college, graduating from Goshen College in 1963.

On August 10, 1963, he was united in marriage to Clarice Arlene Roth in Beemer, NE. They made their home in Arizona teaching on the Navajo Indian Reservation before moving back to Nebraska, and finally settling in Manson, Iowa where they raised their three sons. Harold was a teacher for many years before starting a grain bin construction business and after a prosperous 10 years, he decided to teach until his retirement. In 2007 Harold and Clarice moved to Jesup, to be closer to their beloved family.

Harold is survived by his wife of 51 years, Clarice of Jesup; three sons, Bruce of Dyersville, IA, Steve (Amie) of Madrid, IA, and Kyle (Jaime) of Independence, IA; 10 grandchildren, Auston Troyer, Alex Troyer, Malia Troyer, Brady Troyer, Erica Hanson, Kaleb Troyer, Loren Troyer, Cameron Troyer, Ava Troyer, and Madelyn Troyer; two brothers, James (Norma) Troyer of West Point, NE, Leonard Troyer of Paloga, OK; four sisters, Mary (Bill) Armfield of Hesston, KS, Betty Springer of Milford, NE, Eunice Stutzman, of Milford, NE, and Violet (Merrill) Stutzman of Milford, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Glenn, Lester, and Ivan Troyer; and two sisters, Dorothy Schlegel and Loretta Troyer.

To Harold, faith and family were very important to him. He was a good father and grandfather and leaves us with these words:

“I have come to realize that while we’re here on this earth there are no guarantees, and while there are many things we don’t understand, God is in control, His words are true, and what He says in His World is going to happen. He keeps his promises. There is no way we can ever understand the mind of God, but His love for us is something else I can never comprehend. He knows what’s best for us!” – Harold A. Troyer
