Biography--

Elbert G. Briden, 93, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Janesville, Iowa, died Saturday, July 25, 2015, at NorthCrest Specialty Care in Waterloo.

He was born May 10, 1922 in Janesville, the son of Cecil W. and Edna W. (Lamb) Briden. Elbert married Arlene Ebaugh on January 23, 1944 in Galva, Illinois. She preceded him in death on June 26, 1996. Elbert was a 1940 graduate of Janesville High School and served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He worked at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo for 43 years, retiring in 1984, and served two terms on the Janesville City Council. He was a long time member of Janesville United Methodist Church and attended First Christian Church in Cedar Falls.

Elbert is survived by a son, Norman (Tony Deutsch) Briden, of Maplewood, Minnesota; a daughter, Sharon (Roger) Heiser, of Janesville; three grandchildren, Laurel (Vlasis Stratiou) Heiser of Manakin- Sabot, Virginia, Weylon (Amber) Heiser of Janesville and Cecilia (Michael) Baldwin of Spalding, Nebraska; ten great grandchildren, Christian, Hayleigh and Aidan Heiser, Marina, Markella and Kyranna Stratiou, Sadie, Amelia, Julia and Robert James Baldwin; his companion, Evelyn Turner, of Cedar Falls, and special friends, Scott and Gene Turner, Jason, Alexis and Wilemina Turner.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, one brother, Richard Briden and a sister, Dorothy Frazee.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Janesville United Methodist Church, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Janesville American Legion Post 522. Visitation will be 4—7:00 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Janesville United Methodist Church Choir, the Parkinson Foundation, or the charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
