Biography--

Erna E. Galbraith, age 87, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Saturday, February 28, 2015 at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls.

She was born December 16, 1927, at home in Waterloo, the daughter of Louie and Emma (Schellhorn) Essmann. She was baptized on January 28, 1928 and confirmed on April 6, 1941 at First Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Erna graduated from Waterloo East High School with the Class of 1946. She was united in marriage with William Martin Galbraith on October 21, 1945 at First Lutheran Church in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1996.

Erna worked as a produce manager at Muethers Super Value for five years and Highland Supermarket for 10 years. She also worked as an AVON Lady for many years. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Waterloo and TOPS (take off pounds sensibly).

She loved to cook and bake, especially for her family and her friends at NewAldaya. Erna and her husband enjoyed the outdoors, spending time fishing and camping. They also spent several winters together in Texas and Arizona.

Survivors include two sons, Michael (Linda) Galbraith of Waterloo and David (Teresa) Galbraith of Elk Run Heights; four grandchildren, Adam (Stef), Justin (Melissa), Gen and Chad (Jennifer) Galbraith; nine great-grandchildren: Austin, Whitley, Morgan, Wyatt, Adalyn, Gus, Camden, Zander and Kelso Galbraith; and two brothers, Charles Essmann of Cedar Falls and Lewis Essmann of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters: Ann Foutch, Marie Bruns, Amanda Essmann and Roseanna Van Syoc, who died later the same day as Erna; and two brothers, Kenneth and Ervin Essmann.
